The Hedgehog
erinaceus europaeus
Hedgehogs have a preference for dry areas, not-too-dense woods, meadows and also gardens. The entrance to their burrow is usually well hidden. Inside, the structure is insulated and padded with dry vegetation.
The hedgehog has an effective weapon for its defence: about six to eight thousand spines on its back and sides. In danger, it curls itself up into a ball.
The hedgehog feeds mainly on insects and their larvae, earthworms or slugs.
