The Hedgehog
erinaceus europaeus
Hedgehogs prefer dry, not too dense forests, meadows and gardens. The entrance to the burrow is usually well hidden. Inside, the burrow is insulated and padded with dry vegetation.
The hedgehog has an effective weapon for defence: about six to eight thousand spines on its back and sides. When in danger, the hedgehog can roll up into a ball.
Hedgehogs mainly feed on insects and their larvae, annelids or snails.
