The red fox

vulpes vulpes
Foxes are not choosy when it comes to their habitat. They feel comfortable in forests, meadows, fields and today also in or near human settlements.

Typically, foxes dig their den into the ground, but they can also use a garden shed, a crevice in the rocks or a hollow tree trunk to raise their offspring.

Foxes are omnivorous. It will mainly hunt domestic chickens, ducks or geese when it has a litter of young, as its food requirements are then very high. In summer, it also likes to feed on fruit, with a preference for sweet varieties such as mirabelles, plums or cherries.
